The Orange Wheelbarrow

Me Musing . . . December 21, 2009 . . .

For those of you who missed my post last week on the Red Barn Musings, here are the first photos of the fabric I wanted to 'rust'. Following them are the outcome of the little 'smoked salmon looking' packets!

I used some raw silk that I had dyed last year . . . sort of an apricot colour.

Fabric soaking in vinegar/water

Rusted items placed on fabric

Fabric wrapped around the items

Fabric bundles wrapped in plastic

Here is what it looked like after just one day . . .

The little bundles stayed in the plastic and 'cooked' for 4 days . . . and today I opened them (unfortunately I didn't have my camera right there to take photos as I unwrapped them!). I rinsed them in cool water, then washed them in hot water and a special detergent in washing machine.

Photo came out more gold looking . . .
the fabric is actually still apricot . . .
but interesting designs

These two are my favorites

Fabric wrapped in rusted hibachi grill . . .
this one is about the colour it is in 'real-life'!

Photo again came out more gold . . .
the rusted items were what shows in the 2nd photo above
before I wrapped them

The objects almost lost all their rust into the fabric! So to use them again I will have to put them outside in the rain and weather to rust-up again! Luckily Eb has a whole table of interesting objects, so I can try some more in the next few days.

Not sure what I'll do with the fabric yet, but having fun!

Happy Winter Solstice . . . I added a 'Solstice Sun' to the copper object d'art on the wall of The Alley Workshop . . .

Until soon,

Che'usa
