The Orange Wheelbarrow

Living life as a beautiful artform is my highest aspiration . . . Che'usa

Me Musing . . . November 14, 2010 . . .

This wonderful quote that Donna placed on her latest Blog really spoke to me:

Each of us literally chooses,
by his way of attending to things,
what sort of universe
he shall appear to himself to inhabit.
~ William James

I had ordered Liza Dalby's novel, 'Hidden Buddhas' and when it arrived, I read for an 8 hour stretch the first night, then finished it the next. I was, to say the least, spellbound!

The Hidden Buddhas were called 'hibutsu' (Butsu is the Japanese word for Buddha) and it seems that no other Buddhist culture hid Buddha statues this way. The Japanese, the book said, prefer the covered to the open, the glimpse rather than the complete view. A full moon is most beautiful when partially obscured by the clouds. A hint should suffice. "By hearing one thing, you understand ten!" YESSSSSSSSS!

When I finished the book, I went into the closet and dug out the rolled up canvases containing my 'Dreamer' watercolours from a few years back. I don't have the wallspace here in the house for them, so they have been secreted away for awhile. It made me laugh, as now I think of them as my 'hidden Buddhas'!!!!!!

Of course, that then led to feeling like I should hang a print of one of them in my 'Creative Space', which meant re-arranging the Bowl Altar area that looks out on the barnlot.

It is amazing how green the barnlot has become just since a few days of continued rain . . .

In the mail that day came a little package and a fabulous agate 'bead' my friend Kenzan bought at the Portland (Oregon) Bead show recently. The faint vertical 'white spine' is where it was drilled for the hole. Amazing!

Out came my 'Dreaming the Dance' Lady Buddha . . . and the sweet vase made for me by my friend Cedar before she moved to Oklahoma. It has 3 'sides' to it, each with a different 'Lady Buddha' face. I snipped some Lucky Bamboo from the tall ones and planted them as Their headpiece!

I decided since Winter was quickly approaching I should hang the Tree curtains again . . . then decided to make a new covering for the long narrow window at the back side of my 'Creative Space'.

I have taken a photo of this panel at least 5 times, and it always seems to come out a little fuzzy . . . maybe they reverberate the sounds the Bowl plays in the room!

It is vintage Japanese kimono fabric that I bought on ebay last year from a woman's collection of Kasuri Dyeworks that closed in 2003 in Berkeley, after 30 years . . . the victim of a changing Japanese society (to more Western wear) . . . the one-of-a-kind store specialized in kimono fabrics made by the finest craftsmen in Japan before the kimono began disappearing and the industry along with it.

I was told by the seller that the woman who collected Kasuri pieces kept them secreted away . . . so I thought it very apropos it joined the Hidden Buddhas of Aetna, USA!!!!!!!!!!!

Until soon,

Che'usa
