The Orange Wheelbarrow

Me Musing . . . December 31, 2008 . . .

This quote I found yesterday while doing some more 'usability' work ~ (sorting and organizing so I can actually find things, thus making them more usable!!!!!!)

'We have enough people
who tell it like it is.
NOW . . .
we could use a few
who tell it like it
can be'!!!!!!

I mentioned yesterday the yellow-gold paper I titled: 'Some things to think about . . .'

I got the idea after we watched the classic movie, 'Sabrina' starring Audrey Hepburn. She was the daughter of a chauffeur who went to Paris for 2 years to study cooking. As I watched her in Paris, it brought back memories of my two trips there in 1979 and 1982.

As I watched I realized that from somewhere I had inherited a sense of longing to explore cultures not my own . . . their exotic colours, patterns, textures, clothing . . . like living by a stream fed by springs and unknown sources far away . . . where interesting ideas 'float by'.

And that had given me the idea of making the page 'Some things to think about'.

If one had the money, where would one's creativity take it to go and explore?????

So, this morning I had to laugh as I was sorting through folders and found one for 'Fabric Travels'!!!!! I had saved information about Italy's wool and silk cities near Lake Como. Needless to say, I added those to my yellow-gold sheet of things to think about!

What you
put into
something . . .
is
what

it becomes!

Last night I finished the raw silk jacket I had cut out before Christmas. I had finished the pants to wear Christmas Day, however, hadn't taken the time to work on the jacket.

I had enough of the darker red
for pants and jacket
and maybe a top (to come later!),
but only enough of the brighter red
for an inset pocket panel on the pants
and inset kimono-style panels
at the side seams of the jacket.

The inset kimono-style panels
don't show up well in this photo

sooooooo here they are:

The jacket looks like the brighter red,
but is same colour as the main pant.

The sleeves were a little longer
and wider than the last jacket
(one of those mysteries that happen!)
so I found a clay fired button that solved
the problem of bringing in the sleeve hem a little!

I have made 5 jackets from this pattern in the past 6 months . . . just something about it I love. And I adore working with raw silk.

I feel like in these past few months my anxiety about returning to sewing has lessened and the pathway is opening to be more Exotic in my sewing adventures in 2009!

And . . . I bow in thanks to all who have encouraged me in getting back to sewing . . .

Friends
who have believed
there is
no limit
to my abilities!!!!!!!!

Happiest of New Year Hugs . . .

Ohhhhhhhhh . . . I almost forgot . . . I also had enough of the red to make my little 'New Year Bag' . . . a tradition Mother and I did every year so we would have money for the new year!!!!!! I have no idea where she got that idea, but I can remember running around at 11:55 p.m. on New Year's Eve and she and I finding needle and thread to whip up a little bag to put a penny in . . . 'seed money' me thinks!!!!!!!!!

Until soon,

Che'usa
