Many, many, many thanks!

~ THANK YOU to all who participated in the Etna High School Interact Club's project to send Holiday greeting cards and notes to the recovering Veterans at the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinic in White City, Oregon (State of Jefferson).

I received an email from Diane, the Advisor for Interact saying our combined efforts produced over 100 cards and letters for the Veterans and the Interact Club received the following letter from the Chief of Community Affairs (which I wanted to share with all of you):

"On behalf of the SORCC employees, volunteers, and most especially the Veterans, thank you for your generosity and expressed support of America's finest. The handmade Christmas cards embody the words of Dr. Karl Menninger, "Love cures people, both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it".

Please know that your thoughtful act is much appreciated.

Once again, thank you for your kind thoughts. The acknowledgment of the service of others is gift enough. Thank you."

~ THANK YOU
to all who supported our efforts to provide funds to American Legion Post 260 for the 'Flag Fund for the over 500 Veteran gravesites in our local cemeteries'.

Some folks mailed checks direct to the American Legion Post 260; (Box 193; Etna, CA. 96027) and others purchased the 'Fund-raiser' 1947 Map of the Western Portion of Siskiyou County showing Mines & Mineral Deposits'. At last count, our efforts added almost $700 to the Flag Fund! (There were donations of all sizes, including $100 the Interact Club voted to donate to the Fund last week.)

It is heartwarming to experience our young people's support of Veterans' needs here. The folks at the January meeting of Post 260 were overwhelmed with all of these blessings.

On my November 18, 2011 post, I wrote about the 'Home Guard' meeting Eb and I attended at Valley Oaks Senior Center in Greenview. I am told there will be a 'Deployment Ceremony' on February 18th at Mt. Shasta High School at 11:00 a.m. for the National Guard Soldiers who will be deployed from our area. The 'Home Guard Program' will begin as soon as the soldiers leave and many volunteers have signed up to help.

Interact Club Fundraiser:

The Interact Club (which has provided soooooo much help during Community Events in the past months) is now busy planning their big Fundraiser for the year . . . their annual Basketball Tournament.

This year instead of having only the Boys Varsity play the 'Enforcers' (a team made up of Sheriffs, Police, CHP, District Attorneys, and other legal people) the Girls Varsity will also be part of the team.

The Tournament will be Wednesday, February 29th at 6:00 p.m. in the Etna High School Gym. They are hoping for a large turnout to support this Fundraiser.

The Club uses these funds to support their many Community projects during the year . . . and one project dear to their hearts: Toni's Backpacks. Last year they sent over 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to an Orphanage in Mexico.

Not only do they raise money by ticket sales
but also by selling 'Sponsorships'.

Each Sponsor will have their name in the program
and also on the continuous running LED display
in the gym the night of the tournament.

You can mail a check to:

Interact Club of Etna High School
P.O. Box 129
Fort Jones, CA 96032

If you have questions, call the Interact Club Advisor, Diane at 468 2707.
