from
my perspective . . .
Okie
Dokie . . . weaving a few more loose ends . . .
Remember
this photo that I said I couldn't read one of the words???

Peter
Wright got out his high-powered magnifying glass and saw that
it does have 'Library' in the title.
I just couldn't make Library out of the way it looked, but Peter
confirmed the sign reads: ETNA
Library and Reading Room.
So
now we know! Thanks bunches Peter.
Remember
this photo:

Peter
also confirmed that toward the end of the 60's, the Etna Lions
Club membership was waning with only four old-time members really
keeping it alive: Gleason Balfrey, Harrison Howell, Jigs Coatney
and Henry Aker.
In
the early 70's there was suddenly an influx of young blood, but
he said the Club really didn't keep up the Rest Area like it could
have been.
Laurie
Sweezey wrote that at one time the Scott Valley Garden Club ran
it, then it became a 'beautification project' in 4-H; however,
when help became minimal, it was turned back to the County Road
Department.
Like
so many projects everywhere, the workers are few.
Another
Business has moved in Etna . . .
Darcy's
Full Throttle Salon
just moved from her location on Pig Alley to Suite D in the historic
Blake Hotel at 409 Main Street. Phone for an appointment at 467-5112
or stop by and say hello . . . you can get there from Main Street
by going in the Hotel Lobby entrance**and
walking straight back. You'll see the sign.

Or
you can come from Ray's parking lot, around the back of the Blake
Hotel, past the wondrous scent of Delta's Stargazer lilies, and
in the back door.
**
In the 'olden
days' the Hotel Entrance said: 'Ladies Entrance' as Ladies weren't
allowed to go in through the Corner Saloon entrance!!!!!!

Darcy
told me her mother, B.J. had her hair salon in the exact same
spot until she retired!

In less than
a week,
Darcy turned what was a storage area
into a sweet little place!
When
I moved here in 1997, Dr. Pozar had his Chiropractic Office there.
I was remodeling my little house in old Aetna at the time and
he saved my life a few times when my back went wonky!
P.S:
Pozar and Glee are alive and well in Paradise, California. A few
years ago while out traveling about with our little trailer, Eb
and I stopped to visit with them. We were amazed that 'Doc' spends
3-4 hours a day playing the piano. If I recall he once trained
to be a concert pianist. Beautiful music, fun time and good food
with dear friends.
After
coffee and visiting with friends this morning at Wildwood Crossing,
Eb and I mosied up Main Street to pay a visit to Mike Shafer.
Bev happened to be in the Bay Area for the Gertrude Stein exhibit.
As
many of you know, a few years back, Mike and Bev moved into the
old Etna Meat and Ice building.

Bev
spent about 10 years working on the gardens before the move, while
Mike worked during that time on making it 'livable'.
I
had my new little mp3 recorder with me, so figured it was a good
time to ask Mike about some of the features of the old building
that they kept during its renovation.
