From over the Hill
. . .

Just after I began putting stories on this website back in July, my friend Marilyn Kilpatrick asked if I would be the speaker at the October 27th meeting of The Siskiyou Writers' Club in Yreka.

What seemed months away when she first asked me, all of a sudden arrived . . . and last night was 'the night'!

A few days ago I got an email from Jennifer Bryan who is a Volunteer at The Genealogical Society of Siskiyou County in Yreka. Jennifer said she has been involved in the 'Oral History of Siskiyou' Project. I was intrigued as to what all she was doing, so we agreed to meet yesterday afternoon before my speaking engagement.

I had been to the Museum; however, had never visited the Genealogical Society, housed in a separate building there. They are open every Saturday (year round) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and other times by appointment. It gave me the idea that some of the research I have done could find a home there one day!

I am sure I will be spending more time getting to know Jennifer and figuring out ways we can help each other with the Oral and Written stories we both dearly love.

On to a quick and delicious dinner at Strings on Miner Street, then up to the Sierra Vista Retirement Center 'gathering room' for the event. (The Writers' Group meets the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm)

I thought there might be a dozen people there, so was pleasantly surprised to walk in and see closer to 20 people!

Actually, I was amazed at how relaxed I was . . . perhaps because I would be talking about 'my story' and how this website came about. It's always easier to talk about something you have lived!
