from
my perspective . . .
On
to Greenview today . . . I will let the first recorded segment
introduce our guests . . .

Mildred Hughes,
Marylee Sheffer, Bev Berryhill

This
is a digital photo I took of a framed photo Mildred had of the
dredger . . .

and
this one . . .

Eb
said Mr. Griggs was the watchman
there when the dredge was shut down
so Eb and 'the Griggs twins' (Gene & Jim)
used to be able to go and jump off the dredge
and swim in the dredger pond!
Mildred
entered this story in a contest held by the Western Sentinel newspaper
and won 2nd prize!

This
is a photo Frank & Delta Christ have
in the lobby
of the historic Blake Hotel
of the Dredge area near Callahan . . .
quite
the operation!

Panorama
of Greenview
Photo taken from Greenview Hill
also called Chapparal Hill

The
Sweet Hotel now is only one story tall.
The Senior Center used to be Judge Baldwin's Variety Store.
The Grange Hall used to be where Mobile Mechanic shop is now
at the junction of Main Street and Quartz Valley Road.
The American Legion Hall used to be in the building
which is now the Grange Hall..

Does
anyone know more about this photo
which Eb calls 'the Greenview bus'???

On
the back of the photo Eb wrote:
'Callie Harris on step'
You
might as well fix yourself
a cup of tea and grab a cookie
while you listen to more
of our conversation
at this link.
Marylee begins with a question . . .

We
talked about the Grammar School in Etna and I found two different
photos of it. The people in this photo look much older than grammar
school children!
It
says: Brick school

I
always enjoy comparing photos.
In this one the flag pole is to the left of front door
and there are no outdoor steps on left of building.
This
one was taken by Eastman in 1941 . . .

Someone kept really
busy moving flag poles
from one place to another around the
buildings in Etna back then!
Looks like a 'fire escape' was added to left side
and a few shrubs were planted!
Happy 99th 'new year' Mildred!
Mildred
and daughter Bev
just before the cookie tray
was passed . . .

In joy!
