Me Musing .
. . January
3, 2007 . . .
What happened
to December???
It IS winter and I realize I haven't written in awhile, but I must
have been in 'winter hibernation mode' for all of that month!
Sort of like
the photo our photographer friend, Bill, sent me which he took a
few years ago in the far-North region . . .

I
had lots of ideas but seemed to be inactive in bringing them forward
until a few days before New Years!
This
photo he sent today made me smile as it seems it is right where
I am at the moment. . .

Still
'nesting'some ideas; however, some ideas have crumpled (more on
that another time); others still show signs of colour; and then
there are the new buds that are just beginning to sprout!
Nature
is such a grand metaphoric expression of our lives if we look around
and pay attention to the messages It sends us!
And
if we get too caught up in the fastness of everyday living, thankfully
there are wondrous friends (like our photographer) who take the
time to record even the smallest of wonders for us to ponder.
And
speaking of 'present time' . . . I realized when I typed the date
that, had I stayed married to the young man I married in Ohio in
1969, today would have been the 38th anniversary!!!!!!!! Yikes .
. . that's scary! Realizing where my life has taken me in all these
years, I can't EVEN imagine still being with him . . . it certainly
would have been a whole different journey!
My
'role model' parents somehow had found the magic of longevity of
relationship . . . their love was always fresh and new, which, me
thinks, came from their ability to continally tap into the synapses
which kept their lives in the 'creativity mode'. Whatever idea/project
one was working on at the moment seemed to spark the other's internal
creativity juices . . . such a natural flow that was incredible
to be a part of.
A
friend who works at a fabulous fabric store in St. Paul, Minnesota
(which I have not yet visited!) sent me samples of some of their
new fabrics and THAT got me back into the sewing mode. I have wanted
a 'rain jacket' that didn't look like I was going fishing and the
fabric sample helped me pick a pattern . . . a sort of 'Swing Jacket'.
Since
our New Year's Eve Dance was cancelled, due to the little band dis-banding,
I spent the evening putting the finishing touches on the latest.
Mother always used to tell us to sew a little pouch (didn't have
to be any bigger than an inch or so) before the strike of midnight
on New Year's Eve and put a penny it so we would have plenty of
money for the next year . . . seed money I suppose!
Well,
it was yesterday before I remembered that; however, I was sewing
up to the stroke of midnight that night, so perhaps my New Year
will be filled with creativity galore!
LeChusa now is ready for the next batch of 'El Nino' winter weather
(rain) we seem to be having instead of our much needed snow.

I
love this fabric. It has embroidering all over it and patches of
velvet zigzagged on it. Since I ALWAYS wash the fabric before cutting
out a pattern (no matter WHAT the fabric is . . . as it often makes
for more interesting texture AND makes the finished garment washable),
it got a more crinkled look. It hangs lower in back than front (which
you can't tell from the photo).

I put a bead
at each sleeve to bring in the wideness of the 'cuff' (as for me,
wide cuffs always catch on doorknobs!).
The pattern
(Butterick 3979) calls for one button near the neckline for closing,
however, with this fabric I didn't want to have a button showing
in front as it seemed to take away from the beauty of the fabric.
I will have to figure out what to use to keep it closed, although
for an 'evening jacket' (which this fabric also lends itself to!),
I like the open look.
Have lots more
to write, but need to get to the Post Office before the mail goes
out.
Happy New Year
Hugs,
Until
soon,
