Me Musing .
. . January
26, 2007
Here I am writing
in the wee hours again.
Can't decide
if it is the dark chocolate I ate late in the day, or the perusing
of The Sewing Workshop's gallery photos of actual garments made
from their patterns or reading about and seeing photos of the Designers'
creations of the 30's and 40's !!!
A few days
ago, I began something totally different than 'peat bog' colours
. . . a RED vest out of felted wool.
About 3 years
ago
I made a few felted purses that turned out really well. First I
knitted a HUGE, loose bag, put it in the washing machine in hot
water with a little laundry soap, then into the dryer and
Voilà
! . . . they shrank and felted. (If you've ever put an all wool
sweater into the washer and dryer . . . you are familiar with the
same effect!)
Last year I
tried it with wool jersey fabric and it worked really well.
I loooooooooove the feel and the body of it, plus, it is fun and
easy to do. I had bought some red/orange wool jersey JUST for that
reason; however, since the felting, it has been on the closet shelf
just waiting for the right idea.
I found a vest
pattern in my stash that has angles and thought they would be easy
to work with.
I put the two
fronts (they are asymmetrical) and back together with pins at seam
allowances (after trying on) so I would only have seams at the shoulders.
Using pinking
shears, I cut it out an X/L as I figured the outer edges of neck/armholes
and hems would be OK cut larger as I could trim them . . . but didn't
think about it being the opposite in the armholes... they are a
little deep, but will certainly be comfortable!
I
zigzagged the pinked edges just to keep them from stretching out
with wear. It needed a little something else so I dug in my yarn
box and found a decorative yarn that I had never found a use for
. . .
until now!

It
was perfect as it has ALL the colours in it that I love and wear.
Soooooooo I spent about 4 hours the last few nights doing the handsewing
of the trim around each edge.
I
had a wonderful triangular button I had bought from the fabric store
in St. Paul, Minnesota and while looking for it, I found a felted
yarn 'ball' that my friend Kenzan had made for me a number of years
ago.
The
two fit together perfect for the closure.

Since
I will be meeting another Aquarian-birthday friend for lunch tomorrow
(actually it's today, now!), I sewed the button on and now have
a new wrap to wear . . . over a 'peat bog colour' outfit !

In
this dance called Life . . .
don't get caught in a Tango
with an 'Obstacle Illusion'.
Smile . . . and WALTZ ON!
Until
soon,
