Me Musing . . . about my Glyphs. . .
Since
the late 80's I have 'danced around' learning about the Mayan Calendar.
A few months ago yet another friend encouraged me to buy
a Mayan-based
calendar. After giving her all the reasons why not,
I finally agreed and ordered one.
It was interesting, but still foreign to me.
(And I have since learned that there are two
'versions'
of counting with the Mayan calendar . . .
the Traditional (see www.calleman.com)
and
the more modern Dreamspell version.
After researching both, I have opted for
the Traditional Mayan Count.)
I began paying attention to the Energy Tone of each day
and following the 13-day Creative Cycle
which had been explained
in the particular Mayan Calendar I had purchased.
I figured I might as well jump into the rhythm of each day with vigor . . .
On the day of Etznab, which is sort of a bird's-eye view of a Mayan stairway,
I was reminded of a painting I had done a few years ago
of a stair-stepped building (starting at bottom left and going up)
As I was laying in the bathtub that particular morning and
contemplating Etznab,
I saw in my mind's eye, two staircases (sort of like in Etznab)
and a platform across the top which connected them.
The next thing I knew, I saw myself running up the left-side staircase,
across the platform and down the right-side one.
Then I thought.........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........
I wonder why I went to the
left one so easily????
In my musing,
I found that thinking
of going up the right-side stairway first
was more difficult!
So............... I 'spent time' doing just that!
Up the right side, across the platform, and down the left side!
Up the right side, across the platform, and down the left side!
Up the right side, across the platform, and down the left side!
Then I 'spent time' on the platform
between/above the two staircases.
It couldn't tell you what it was,
but something seemed like it shifted in me.
I hadn't done any watercolour for at least 6 months
but decided as I emerged from my bath
that it was time to paint what I had just 'visioned'.
My Etznab . . .

And,
of course,
you can guess what happened after that . . .
It seemed that (in my mind)
the glyphs on the calendar
didn't have much to do
with what was written describing them!
And I figured if I was going to really
delve into this study,
then I needed a 'picture'
that would remind me of the Energy Signature for that day . . .
And sooooooooooooooooooo it began:
Each
late evening as I read about the Glyph for the next day,
something in the words
seemed to trigger in me
a new thought or sometimes a mental image
and I headed straight for my kitchen-area studio
to let it come out in colour!
And . . .
I also
found that I was adding to their original name
with a word or phrase that helped remember in me
the 'signature'.
Wonderfully, for those next 20 evenings,
the paintings just flowed out
for the next Day's-Keeper . . .
some are more 'drawn' . . .
some just appeared in the colours-moved-with-water!
Here are My Glyphs . . .
And if these, in some way, inspire you to create your own . . . GREAT!

And
. . . at the end of the 20 days
when the cycle of those 'Day's-Keepers' began again,
and I looked at Etznab this time . . .
both
stairways felt balanced and equal
as I looked at them . . .
and without realizing it . . .
I was instantly on the platform . . .
ready to begin . . .
