Photo taken about 1903 at Dunblane Farm near Shawnee Hills
Keldon (son), Ivan L. and Anna Reeb Hess Latham

The story goes that Grandpa went to the woman who owned this farm (presumed to be Mrs. John Dun) and asked
if they could trade rent for 10% of the money he made from the crops he would grow. She eivdently agreed.
The farm was about 230 acres (which went all the way down to the river). Some of the acreage was treed so
he got permission to clear some of the trees in order to make more farmable land.

I am not sure how many years they lived there. Mother (Phyllis Mary Latham) was born there in 1919.
Grandma's father, Henry Rutherford Hess passed in 1930, at which time she and Grandpa inherited his farm
on Olentangy Drive (where I was born). I have not yet found a photo of the Olentangy farmhouse, although
others are available taken inside on various special occasions.

Photo taken about 1963 of Brookside house

I believe it was the late 50's or perhaps 1960 when Grandma and Grandpa decided to sell the Olentangy Drive farm and
retire from farming. They sold it to a man (who I believe, unbeknownst to them) already had a developer who would
buy it from him at a much higher price. Shortly thereafter, the house was torn down and University Shopping Center
was built there, across from the Old Section of Union Cemetery. I remember the day of the farm auction just before
they moved to this home which overlooks the lake across from Brookside Country Club.
