The Orange Wheelbarrow

Me Musing . . . November 6, 2008 . . .

On Sunday while in Ashland. Oregon for a musical at the Cabaret Theatre I happened in to a fabulous little 'hole-in-the-wall' fabric store. With 'orange' on my mind for fabric to compliment the slate blue corduroy fabric that I had done the dye discharge/colour on Saturday, I found some orange wool. Since I had added orange and lime/acid green to the discharged areas it just seemed that orange would setoff whatever the fabric would become.

I put the wool in the washer and dryer and it felted nicely. I decided to use a vest pattern I had made last year . . . but it seemed a little skimpy, so thought maybe I'd better do a re-make with some of my
$1 a yard stash before cutting into the corduroy and wool!

I found a green and when I set it down on the table to go and get the pins, etc. I realized that IT was the perfect match for the corduroy!

I'll save the orange felted wool for another day!

The fabric was for upholstery
but has a soft chenille look/feel to it.

Soooooooooooo I spent last evening in the Sewing Room and decided not to make a sample first . . . but just add some to the vest front and go with it! I was pleased how it turned out.

The corduroy pants are from
the same fabric I discharged and painted.
(I look a little bowlegged here!)

I added a pocket also
and a hidden snap for closing.

I have a little fabric left so may use it for a bag (small purse).

The other day I made a bag from some upholstery fabric left from a jacket (made a few years ago!). I used leather cording for the strap and a special button I had bought in Seaside, Oregon and a wonderful little bell from Yachats, Oregon.

Inside I made a little pocket
and on the backside a longer pocket
for my reading glasses.
I like to have them handy when I shop!
And the tinkling of the little bell makes me smile.
I haven't tried putting a zipper into anything in years,
so went for a hidden snap for closure also!

All for now . . . time to fix something for dinner!

P.S . . . I found on my desk this morning a book I had downloaded called 'Celebrating Completing' by Martha Ringer. This afternoon I decided I would designate one day each week to work on some things that I have left un-completed . . . (some go back a few years) however, this gives me hope: 'complete ONLY what is yours to do!'

Tomorrow is Friday . . . so a good day to begin this 'winter ritual' of
'Friday Finishings'. Loved this quote:

"Slow done
rather than speed up
to complete . . ."

Until soon,
