The Orange Wheelbarrow

Me Musing . . . November 17, 2008 . . .

My plan to figure out what pattern I wanted to use and rough cut the pieces out of the pumpkin-gold raw silk, dye discharge it in areas and see what the end result will be got stalled. I have noticed that sometimes happens. You decide to go in one direction and before you know it you are going in another direction . . . or even . . . no direction at all!!

One honours One's Self
and One's Lineage
when the seed of creativity
which lives within the Inner Heart
begins to sprout . . .
sending forth the footprints of
Life's pattern . . .
to be followed
and
traveled
in Joy and in Trust.

I couldn't quite decide if I really wanted a jacket out of the raw silk as it is pretty flimsy and couldn't quite decide what to put the pumpkin gold wool with . . . the tapestry or the circles . . . so I remembered what Grandma used to say: "when you can't decide it just means that you don't have enough information at that particular moment!"

Soooooooooooo I let it all rest for awhile, still leaving it all out on the table to peek at each time I walked by.

I realized I only had 1/2 yard of the circles, which was plenty for a tote and small 'inner' bag. The brighter side seemed a little bright for the tote, so I used the 'wrong' side (which actually may have been the 'right' side as it was upholstery fabric). Then I used the brighter side for the smaller bag. I didn't have to use an inner fabric as the weight was just right for a tote, making the whole project go really fast.

I have gotten so used to having the little pocket
for eyeglasses on the outside
that I put one on this tote also.
Sure handy!

For now the tapestry fabric and wool are still ?????????s.

The piece of raw silk I had dye discharged was laying on the table so I decided to try doing some rubbings with Paintsticks. They are oil and if left to dry, can be heat-set on fabric.

I had a piece of plastic grid and did a little rubbing to find out what the result might be. I'll have to let it 'cure' for 24 to 72 hours before I heat-set it, so have no idea what the finished 'look' will be.

I'll report back on that!

The dark marks are what came out by rubbing
the Painstik on the fabric with the plastic grid underneath.
Sort of fun . . .
and much easier than 'drawing'!

This got me to wondering what ever happened to the photo of me taken about 1956 in an outfit that Mother printed fabric for coat lining and dress. It was some kind of mother-daughter Fashion Show so she also made herself a dress out of the same fabric.

After a little searching, I found it. What a hoot!

Who IS that girl ????

As I recall, part of the printing was done with one of those old potato mashers! (Taken before colour film!) I especially love the bangs and 'self-belt' as they were called! Seems like every outfit we made had one of those.

Guess the seed of creativity got planted really early in me!

Until soon,
