Thanksgiving
Day is fastly approaching so wanted to jot off a note to wish all
a Happy and Thanks-filled day.
I
was fooling around this afternoon with some aqua wool that I had
bought about 5 yards of a few years ago, then had cut off about
one yard
months ago and threw it into the washer and dryer to see what it
did.
The
wool fabric was already fairly heavy and this turned out very
thick . . . could probably wear it and keep warm in below
zero weather!
Wool
jersey fabric felts a lighter weight, but since I had this piece
already to go I thought I'd just try a vest out of it. The nice
thing about felted is that you don't really have to finish the edges
or seams.
All
I had to do was overlay the front to back and zigzag the shoulder
seams and side seams.
It was very
plain and
as Mother used to say:
'Certainly nothing to write home about'!!!!!
So I cut out a pocket and needle felted on some of the silk from
a few of the Bombyx silk hankies that I had dyed a few weeks ago.
I like the colours
and will be able to use it
with much that is already developing
in my closet
I
am beginning to feel that I am getting my 'stride' back with sewing,
(having sewn from the time
I was about 13 until my mid 30's, then just beginning again a few
years ago) but haven't leaped forward yet into wild
designs. It may be that I seem to prefer solids that I can mix with
other solids in the closet . . . everything 'wild' I have ever bought
seems to languish in my closet and eventually get passed on! (Sort
of like getting my hair cut each month and she 'wilds
and spikes'
it up and I like it, but it never looks that way again!)
Not
sure what I will do with the other 4 yards of the original wool
as it is not a colour I would have chosen had I seen a sample of
it before I ordered it. A little too pale for me.
The
leftover pieces of the felt I can use as hot-pads it is so thick!!!!!!!
Other
than that . . . that much news.
