'Chinra-Minka' ~The Old Red Barn

Me Musing . . . August 26, 2009

This is tooooo incredible not to tell you!

This morning before leaving to work at the Cottage I opened my emails and found sooooooooo many of you exclaiming over the wood floor Eb is laying AND the wonderful chair I found yesterday at the used store here in town.

I backtrack only to tell you that before walking downtown yesterday to pick up a few things at the hardware and get the mail, my left palm began to itch. I smiled, as Grandma used to say: "If your right palm itches, you'll meet someone; if your left palm itches, you'll get money".

Money, of course, is a loose term, as sometimes it is not in cash, but in other ways . . . like this morning's email!

My artist friend, Iona, in Virginia Beach, VA. wrote and said (because she used to deal in antiques) she couldn't help herself, but had to google 'bentwood armchairs' to see if she could find anything. She sent me a link from ebay that looked just like my chair!

Since it's probably not ethical to print the photo on their auction, just use this google link and cut and paste this:
Thonet J&J Kohn Mundus Carved Bentwood Side Arm Chair
then click on Google Search. The first entry that should come up will be the ebay one. Click on it and see the photos!

Well, as you can imagine, I spent awhile on the computer before heading off to the Cottage to work! When we recovered the chair I noticed on the bottom of the seat that there had been two labels there.

I looked again and one was still intact . . . just so dark that it was difficult to make out anything at first.

In the sunlight, words began to appear on the label!!!!!!!!!!

THONIN _______ BROS. INC
Salesroom: One Park Ave., NY
Factories: Long Island NY ______esville____

Well, as you can imagine THAT 'set me right up in the buggy' (as Grandma also used to say!!!!!!)

Eb and I looked at each other and both at the same time smiled and said, "We're just like the people on Antiques Road Show"!

Whenever we watch that show and see the prices of things we always say to each other: 'how come you never had anything like that"???

NOW WE DO!!!!!!!!!

And I wouldn't trade it for $999!

Until soon,

Che'usa
